Top Travel Destinations in the Philippines

The Philippines is a top tourist destination worldwide, and offers tourists variety of attractions ranging from its pristine white sand beaches to its lush green forests. Each place tells a story of its own, capturing the hearts of travelers and consequently urging them to visit again. Listed below are the top travel destinations plus the activities tourists can enjoy while in the area.


Palawan is an island province belonging to Region 4 or MIMAROPA area and lies in the West Philippine Sea. It is dubbed as the “Cradle of the Philippine Civilization” mainly for the reason that this is where the oldest remains are found dated to be 47,000 years old and is found in the caves of Tabon in Quezon, Palawan. Here is some of the top tourist attractions found in the area.

Destinations and Activities:

1. Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park

  • Considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
  • Take an organized tour where you can ride a paddled boat with a tour guide. Inside the tunnel, you can see stalactite and stalagmite formations. The entire length of the tunnel is 8.2 kilometers and takes 40 minutes to complete the tour.

2. Coron Reefs

  • A diving haven located in Busuanga which is a part of the Calamian Group of Islands.
  • Main attractions are scuba diving to see the 26 sunken Japanese naval warships and at least 200 islets with its white sand beaches.

3. El Nido

  • A travel destination declared as a marines reserve and is protected by the Philippine government
  • Things to do in El Nido are snorkeling, kayaking, swimming or simply communing with nature with its clear water lagoons, secluded beaches and rugged cliff rock mountains. Found also in El Nido is the El Nido Marine Reserve Park.

An island in the Philippines located at the northwest tip of Panay Island in Visayas Area. Famous for its white sand beach, highly acclaimed by international magazines and attracted tourists from the whole world. Some of the many activities to indulge in while in Boracay are as follows;

1. White Sand Beach

  •  A stretch of white sand beach on the west coast of the island acclaimed to remain cool even on the hottest days. People often stay here to relax, have a massage, sun bathe, shop and party.

2. Puka Beach

  • Made famous by its shiny white puka shells used for jewelry. Can be reached by boat, hiking, and mountain bikes or thru rented tricycles.

3. Bolabog Beach


  • Ideal for windsurfers and kite surfers on the first quarter of the year. Where the annual Boracay International Funboard Cup is held which is later on considered to be an official leg of the Asian Windsurfing Tour.
  • Location of the highest point of the island, Mount Luho.

4. Dead Forest

  • Offers a contrast to what the island offers making it an ideal place for photographers wanting to capture the eerie atmosphere of dead tree stumps.


  • Called the “Queen City of the South” and is considered to be the oldest Spanish settlement in the Philippines.

1. Sky Adventure in Crown Regency hotels and Towers

  • Boasts of hair-raising rides situated on top of their 459 feet high tower.

2. Tops

  • Located in the hills of Busay and offers you a view of the city of Cebu and Mactan.

3. Magellan’s Cross

  • The site of the cross planted by Ferdinand Magellan when the first Spanish arrived in the country.



  • Home of the Sto. Nino believed which was believed to be burnt during a fire that burned the whole village but is later found in a small house unscathed. The place where the monument was found is the location of the church.

5. Camotes Island

  • Offers wide array of activities from snorkeling, diving, beach volleyball, swimming and photography.


Vigan City is the capital of Ilocos Sur located in the northern tip of the Philippines. It is one of the few Hispanic towns in the country and is considered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Some of the top tourist destinations in the area are listed below.

Destinations and Activities:

1. Calle Crisologo 

  • With its cobblestone streets, lined by ancestral houses with tile roofs, you can go around this place riding a “kalesa” or a horse-drawn carriage and relieve the old Spanish era.

2. Balluarte

  • An interactive wildlife and sanctuary aimed at educating people and protecting the endangered species of the country.


  • Located in the Cordillera region and is known as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines “.

1. Burnham Park

  • A park situated in the center of the city with a man-made lagoon. Boat rides are available at the lagoon. Best place for jogging, biking, and skating.

2. Baguio Cathedral

  •  Just above the Burnham Park is the Baguio Cathedral, perfect for church- goers and offers a good view of the city of Baguio.

3. Mines View Park

  • Offers a view of the mountain sides of Baguio City. Perfect for taking pictures and relaxation.


Bohol, a small island province in Visayas, offers a wide range of activities and is the home to the second smallest primate in the world, the Philippine tarsier. Famous places to visit are listed below with corresponding activities common in each area.

1. Chocolate Hills

  • Uniformly- shaped hills differing in altitude changing color from brown to green depending on the climate. Hiking and picture taking is ideal in this scenic place.

1. Banaue Rice Terraces

  • A UNESCO World Heritage site and sometimes called the Eighth Wonder of the World, offers a glimpse of the genius agriculture of the Cordilleras with its rice terraces resembling a stairs starting from the bottom of the mountain up to its peak.

3. Baywalk

  • Gives you a view of the famous Manila sunset and is a favorite destination for photographers.  Ideal for jogging, biking and skating.

4. China Town

  • Considered as one of the largest Chinatowns in the world where you can find Chinese cuisines and shops.


A small city located in the Cavite Area. Its high altitude with its cool climate attracts tourist for a relaxing get away and is just a 2 hour-ride from Metro Manila.

Destinations and Activities:

1. Picnic Grove


  • A picnic ground offering the best view of the Taal Lake and Taal Volcano. Activities include horse-back riding, zip line, hiking and kiting.

2. People’s Park in the Sky

  • Situated at the highest point of Tagaytay and gives you a view of four bodies of water namely the Taal Lake, Laguna Bay, Balayan Bay and Manila Bay.


Awarded as the “most Livable City of the Philippines”, Davao is located in Mindanao and is where the highest peak of the Philippines is found, Mt. Apo.

  • Considered as the highest point in the Philippines and is a haven for hikers and adventure lovers.

2. Philippine Eagle Center

  • Conservation center housing one of the largest eagles in the world and other animals like reptiles and birds. The Center aims to preserve and protect species that are endangered.

  • A park located in the mountains that gives you a bird’s eye view of Davao. It is a good place for hiking with its beautiful scenery for photographers or aspiring photographers.

    Been to most of the places in the list except Baluarte, Banawe and Dead Forest in Boracay. How do you get to the dead forest?

      You can walk directly from the Bolabog beach or walk along Lagutan Road from the main highway to the Dead Forest.

    I wasn’t surprised upon seeing two of the attractions in Palawan. Bilang taga Palawan, masaya ako at napabilang ang underground river at el nido sa list mo. Wish to visit them again soon.
